Student art contest

The Ivins Night Sky Initiative is sponsoring a student art contest at Vista School for Eva Lorentzen’s 6th, 7th, and 8th grade art students. The contest begins on January 28, 2019. There will be awards and cash prizes.

The goal of this contest is to promote dark sky awareness and make the enchantment of the night sky a focus point for students that will stay with them throughout their lives.

This contest will be professionally judged by Steven Stradley.

Steven Stradley

Steven is a professional artist and the Visual Arts Instructor at Tuacahn High School. He maintains an active studio practice in his Saint George studio. He is represented at A Gallery Fine Art in Salt Lake City and exhibits nationally.

Steven earned his BFA degree from Utah State University in Painting/Drawing and Art Education, then earned his MFA degree from Michigan State University in Painting.

He is a Michigan State University Distinguished Fellow, received the Varg-Sullivan award from Michigan State University, a Utah Emerging Artist Grant, and numerous exhibition awards. His previous experience includes: Michigan State University, Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Dixie State University, Mountain Ridge Junior High, Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, educational collaborations with SCAD, Microsoft, and the Di Fiore Center.

Contest winners to be announced on February 12, 2019.
